Based in Leeds Bradford Airport, Jet2 is a British low cost airline that began operations over 35 years ago as Channel Express (Air Services). The company changed names shortly prior to offering its first leisure flight in 2003, from which time it has been known as Jet2.com. What are Jet2’s Baggage Allowance Limits and Fees?

Jet2 Hand Luggage Size

Carry-on luggage must not exceed the maximum dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25 cm, and the maximum weight is 10kg.

Note that if you plan to bring any liquids into the cabin, you can do so as long as they are stored in containers no bigger than 100ml and are carried in a clear, re-sealable plastic bags with maximum dimensions of 20 x 20cm. Each passenger can carry a maximum of 1000ml (e.g. 10 x 100ml).

Jet2 Checked Luggage Size

Passengers have the option to purchase a checked luggage allowance when booking their flights. Checked luggage is available in 22 kg allowances, each passenger can purchase a maximum travel weight of 66 kg (3 items at a max weight of 22 kg each).

If the booking occurs online, passengers save up to 50% when compared to paying at the airport.

Excess Baggage

It is usually possible to check-in excess baggage on payment of the relevant charge at the departure airport. This charge is currently £12 per kilo of extra baggage above the pre-purchased allowance. No single item of baggage may weigh more than 32kg.

On request and with prior approval, some items of sporting or medical equipment may be carried in excess of this weight limit.

Sports Equipment and Special Luggage

Customers can pre-book carriage of surfboards, SCUBA equipment, bicycles, golf clubs and skis.

To pre-book large water sports equipment and for charges for other sports equipment, you will need to contact the Call Centre.

Note that no item of sporting equipment can exceed 6ft in length.

Musical Instruments

If your musical instrument is within the permitted hand baggage dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25cm and weighs less than 10kg, it can be carried onto the aircraft with you.

Slightly larger instruments may sometimes be carried onboard provided that it fits into the overhead lockers and the prevailing charge for carriage of this item is paid. The weight of such items is limited to 20kg per item, after which you will be required to pay the current excess baggage charge per kilo up to a maximum weight of 32kg per single item.

Larger instruments such as a guitar or cello may be carried in the cabin on a dedicated seat but this extra seat must be paid for. A non-emergency exit window seat will be allocated. For health and safety reasons, the item must weigh less than 65kg, be restrainable in the seat and must not extend above the top of the seat by more than 30cm. The carriage of musical instruments is charged at £30.

Delayed, Missing or Damaged Luggage

If you discover that your baggage is lost, damaged or delayed, you will need to inform the ground handling staff at your arrival airport and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).

Once you have received your PIR, click here and enter your details to see the latest status regarding your bag. If your bag has still not been found after 5 days, Central Baggage Services will take over the responsibility of looking for your bag. They can be contacted on the following numbers:

  •  From within the UK: 0333 300 0404 (call charged at local rate).
  •  From outside the UK:+370 523 63402 (local international rate).

In addition, you will need to write to them at the address below enclosing a copy of the completed PIR, baggage tag receipt and original purchase receipts (as evidence of the age and value of the item) within 7 days for damaged bags and within 21 days for delayed or lost bags.

Boarding Passes

When booking a flight with Jet2.com, eligible passengers can check-in online from 28 days up to 5 hours ahead of departure here.

You can choose to print your boarding passes or download them to your smartphone.

Priority Boarding

None, although the airline sometimes does board families with children and those requiring special assistance first, depending on capacity and time permits.

Flying with Children

Infants under the age of 2 years (on the date of departure of the flight concerned) may fly for a fee of £20 per flight sector, provided they sit on the knee of a fare paying adult who has responsibility for that infant.

Only one infant per adult is permitted to book and travel with Jet2.com.

The minimum age for an infant to be carried by Jet2.com is 14 days after birth.

Pushchairs/Strollers

Subject to local conditions, collapsible pushchairs or buggies may be used up to the aircraft steps and can be reclaimed immediately upon disembarkation or at baggage reclaim.

Collapsible pushchairs or children’s car seats up to a total maximum weight of 10kg (for both items) do not form part of the baggage allowance and may be carried free of charge as checked luggage for any infant or child on the booking. These items are subject to space availability on the aircraft. If there is insufficient space, the items will be forwarded on the next available flight. Anything over the allocated 10kg is charged for the prevailing excess baggage charge.

Seating for Babies and Children

Infants or very young children (aged between 6 months and 24 months and weighing 9-18kg) may be able to use their own car-type infant seats, subject to its suitability, onboard the aircraft. Car seats must be front facing and of the type that can be properly secured on the aircraft seat by use of the normal aircraft seat lap straps. Note the car seat cannot exceed the following maximum dimensions:

  • Depth 24.5cm, Width 43.6cm and Height 70.5cm.

Customers wishing to use their own infant car seats must purchase an aircraft, seat which is charged at the appropriate fare. For safety reasons, a window seat will be allocated wherever possible.

Jet2 also reserves the right to refuse permission for the use of certain types of car seats on the aircraft or during take off and landing. In these circumstances, the infant must be carried on the adults lap (under 2 years) or in a seat using the standard lap belt (2 years and over).

Unaccompanied Children

Jet2 allows persons aged 14 or over to travel alone. Any person under the age of 14 can only travel if accompanied by a person aged 16 years or over who will take full responsibility for them.

Flying While Pregnant

There are no special restrictions on pregnant women travelling up to and including the 27th week of pregnancy.

Between the 28th and 33rd week of pregnancy, travel will only be permitted with a doctor’s certificate confirming the stage of pregnancy and fitness to fly, which needs to be dated within 7 days of the outbound date of travel and 16 days of the inbound date of travel.

Expectant mothers of 34 weeks or more on the return flight will not be permitted to fly under any circumstances.

Senior Fares

Being a budget airline, Jet2 does not offer any special fares specifically for seniors.

Group Bookings

Group bookings can be made for 10 or more people on 0800 408 0779 from the UK. In your quote request, you will need to give the following information:

  • Name of the person to be contacted.
  • A daytime telephone number.
  • Number of passengers (including children)
  • Flight dates.
  • Destination.

Travelling with Wheelchairs

You can book mobility assistance on-line by ticking the wheelchair requirement box and following the on-screen instructions at the time of making the flight booking.

If all the available on-line mobility assistance places have been taken, you will need to contact the Assistance Team on +44 (0) 800 408 5591 or +44 (0)203 059 8337 if calling from overseas.

You will not be charged any additional fees for booking your flight and assistance through the call centre. Up to two pieces of mobility equipment per person can be carried free of charge in the aircraft hold (subject to capacity of the operating aircraft).

 

Flying with Guide Dogs

You have the option of taking a guide dog or other assistance dog with you free of charge. Contact the Assistance team on the numbers above to arranged this.

Note that as some countries have special regulations regarding the entry of animals, it is important to take appropriate application measures in advance of departure.

Pets

Jet2 does not carry live animals in the hold or cabin. Only guide dogs are permitted in the cabin with prior approval.

Booking fees are not charged.

Travel Insurance

UK customers can purchase insurance online through Jet2insurance.com. The policy is arranged through ROCK Insurance Group and underwritten by HCC International Insurance Company PLC.

Insurance is available from one day to 30 days for European travel, including the option for winter sports cover (UK customers only). Coverage includes:

  • Medical Emergency & Repatriation (up to £15,000,000)
  • Cancellation, Curtailment & Trip Interruption (up to £3,500)
  • Personal Possessions (up to £2,000)

Flight Change Fees

Requests to change your ticket’s point of departure or destination are not permitted. If you wish to change these by making a new booking, then you will forfeit all monies paid.

However, if you wish to change the name details of you ticket, you can do so if  the original booking was made through the call centre or one of the airline’s authorised agents, or made in person at the passenger sales desk at the airport no later than 4 hours before departure.

Departure time changes are also permitted via the Manage My Booking function. A fee and any difference in fare rates on the new journey needs to be paid.

Flight Cancellation Policy

If the airline cancels a flight, fails to operate a flight reasonably according to the schedule or fails to stop at your destination you can:

  • Take the next scheduled service on which space is available without additional charge and, where necessary, extend the validity of your ticket; or
  • Within a reasonable period of time, fly to the destination shown on your ticket using the airline’s own services or those of another carrier, or by other mutually agreed means and class of travel, without additional charge. If the fare and charges for the revised routing are lower than you have paid, the airline shall refund the difference; or
  • Be eligible for a refund.

If your flight is cancelled, you may also be entitled to financial compensation but only if  the cancellation is not attributed to extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather conditions, political instability, strikes, security, risks or unexpected flight safety shortcomings.
