Peak season:

The peak season varies depending on where in Denmark you are hoping to fly into. Copenhagen for example is a popular tourist destination pretty much all-year round so you’ll need to secure your flight tickets in advance if you are visiting there. The whole of Denmark sees an influx of tourists during the summer, from June to late August, and around Christmas and New Year so you’ll struggle to find the cheapest flights to Denmark around then. Around May or June there is the annual Viking festival in Ribe which is definitely worth visiting if you’re nearby the area. Aarhus, Denmark’s second biggest city, sees the Northside Music Festival in June and August sees the Hans Christian Anderson festival hit the country, with over 250 free events to attend. There are loads more events too which will increase the price of your flight tickets so ensure you plan ahead and book them early to avoid over-paying.

Off season:

The smaller cities go quiet from around the middle of November until early March time, as the weather gets a lot colder and a lot wetter. If you’re not too fussed about the rain however, you can find the cheapest flights to Denmark during this off season. That said you might struggle to find too much to do if you’re outside of Aarhus or Copenhagen.

When is the best time to book a flight to Denmark?

You can find great deals on flight tickets around the spring time, starting in early April until late May. You’ll also be able to enjoy fewer crowds as the tourist sector is just coming into swing but you’ll get pleasant weather with the odd rainy day here and there. You’ll want to secure your flights to Denmark as early as you can as both accommodation and flight tickets drastically increase as summer rolls along, so aim to have everything booked three or four months earlier. Your best bet is to be flexible with your dates and your location as this will help you find the cheapest flights to Denmark with the least amount of effort, although you might have to sacrifice the weather slightly.

Which airlines operate flights to Denmark?

Ryanair and easyJet will provide the cheapest flights to Denmark however you’ll have to sacrifice comfort and quality for the duration of the flight. You’ll also need to be aware that during the peak summer months they do increase the price of checked in luggage quite drastically. British Airways and Norwegian on the other hand offer reasonably comfy seats and an enjoyable journey for the most part. British Airways also provide complimentary snacks and drinks throughout their flights to Denmark whereas Norwegian offer free WiFi for the duration of the trip. Ultimately it’ll come down to your budget. If you want the cheapest flights to Denmark then consider the budget airlines, if you’re a bit flexible on the price of your flight tickets then shop around a bit and compare your options.

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Copenhagen:

The airport is only 8km away from the centre so it isn’t overly difficult to find your way there. One of the easiest ways to make up the distance is to go to the metro station underneath Terminal 3. You can purchase a ticket either from the automated machines or from the metro counter at baggage reclaims. The M2 line runs every hour of the day, every day of the year, at a rapid rate of every 6-8 minutes so you’ll never have to wait around for too long to get into the centre of Copenhagen. If you don’t fancy the metro then there is also an over-ground train you can take, again from Terminal 3. Bus number 250S operate from outside of Terminal 2 and 3 and take around 30 minutes to take you to the bus station in the centre of Copenhagen. Lastly you can opt for a taxi but they are expensive, especially when compared to the alternate options available to you. If you can split the fare with a friend then they do work out more worthwhile. Just be sure to agree on the fee before starting the journey.

Billund:

The airport it Billund has slightly less transportation options than Copenhagen. Your main choice is to get a bus. They run regularly and are inexpensive compared to the taxi alternative, however if you have lots of baggage or if you’re in a rush, you might find the bus service less ideal. Other than that you can either pre-arrange for a taxi to collect you once you’ve booked your flights to Denmark or you can jump in one once you land. As mentioned above, the taxis in Denmark aren’t cheap so be prepared to part with some cash if you choose this option.
