Peak season:

The peak season depends on where in the country you are going to visit, the east coast for example is best seen from May to September. You can also find cheap flights to Malaysia around these months too so if you plan ahead and secure your flight tickets in advance you can grab some bargains. January to February can see most of the country crowded as the Thaipusam overs takes the country. Thaipusam is a big Hindu festival and you’ll struggle to find cheap flights to Malaysia without some serious planning in advance. School holidays can also rise up the cost of flight tickets so take this into consideration before booking your flights to Malaysia.

Off season:

Again this depends on where in the country you are planning to visit as the west coast experiences the brunt of the rainy season from October to November and April to May. Outside of these months there isn’t really much of an off season across Malaysia so securing your flight tickets in advance is a must to avoid overpaying.

When is the best time to book a flight to Malaysia?

To have any chance of finding the cheapest flights to Malaysia you’ll want to try and book your flight tickets as early as you can. The earlier you plan and book the more money you are likely to save, especially if you are hoping to visit during a school holiday or when a major festival is on. If you can be flexible then you’ll have a much better chance of finding deals and cheap flights to Malaysia so try not to give yourself a concrete period of time to visit if you can help it. Depending on where you are flying into will decide what view you will have from the skies but weather permitting, sitting on the left hand side of the plane when flying into Kuala Lumpur should give you spectacular views, although the right hand side isn’t bad either.

Where are the most popular flight destinations in Malaysia?

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Kuala Lumpur:

The easiest and quickest way to get from the airport to the city is via the KLIA Express. This train takes around 28 minutes to make the journey to or from the airport and is relatively cheap too. It will take you to the train station in the centre of the city and then from there you can find your way to your hotel. Your other option is to consider taking a taxi from the airport. You’ll find a taxi convenient if you have a lot of baggage with you or if you don’t want to wait the 15 minutes for the train. That said they are also more expensive and some drivers are prone to ripping off tourists.

Kuching:

You are limited to either a taxi or a bus the get to the city however both are relatively easy to find. Once your flight to Malaysia lands, you’ll find taxis outside of the arrivals Terminal and you can also purchase a pre-paid taxi coupon which is strongly suggested to avoid you being overcharged. To access the bus routes you’ll need to take a left as you exit the airport and walk towards the T junction. From there turn left again and walk until you reach a big roundabout which is where you’ll find bus stops to take you to the city. You’ll want a bus numbered 3A, 6, 8G or 9.

Penang:

The airport in Penang is around 16km away from the city and the most efficient method of transport is the bus service. 102, 306 and 401E are all reliable lines that leave every 30 minutes so you’ll never be stuck waiting too long once your flight lands in Malaysia. These particular bus lines have their own ticket centre in the arrivals area of the airport so make sure to buy your ticket from here first. Failing that you can opt to go for a taxi although these will cost you a lot more than the bus, however, if you have a lot of baggage or can split the fare with a friend, a taxi can be a useful method of transport.
