Eritrea is good to visit all year round, though for many people the weather is a deciding factor. Asmara experiences a dry season, which lasts from December to April, and a wet season, which runs from May to September. Temperatures throughout the year are fairly constant, although the dry season tends to be slightly cooler.
The climate is at its best during the drier months, when temperatures are on average between 6 and 25 degrees Celsius. A shared taxi might take a little longer to take you to your destination, as it drops other people off first. Make sure to negotiate the price before departure.
Visitors who take flights to Asmara International Airport (ASM) will find the city centre located just 3.7 miles (6 km) away. There are regular buses from the airport to the centre: the journey takes half an hour. These buses leave every 30 minutes between early morning and late evening each day, and the fare is very reasonable. The other main option is to take a private taxi from those waiting outside the airport. A taxi will cost roughly ten times as much as the bus, but which will get you right to the door of your hotel within the town centre in just 20 minutes.
