The flight from the UK to Somalia will take approximately 11h 55m depending on the airline that you choose. However, note that this includes only a single stopover. Flights with more than one stopover will take significantly longer. There are several airports in the UK offering flights to Somalia, although Manchester Airport and London Heathrow are the most commonly used. Other choices include London Luton and London Stanstead. There are three international airports in Somalia where you might land, including bender Qassim International Airport, Abdullahi Yusuf Airport, and Aden Adde International Airport.
Unfortunately, there are no cities in the UK that offer direct flights to Somalia. However, there are many cities that can offer flights with one, two, or more stopovers. London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, and Glasgow all offer flights to the country. The average time for a one-stop flight is 11h 55m. However, some can be as long as 21h 50m. A flight to Somalia with two stops could take as long as 15h 10m, or even longer depending on the airline you choose. Some of the more common stopover points here include Addis Abbab, Jijiga, and Istanbul.
Getting around Somalia can be both challenging and dangerous. The easiest way to travel is by boat. Taxis and minibuses are available in some of the more developed cities, such as Mogadishu, but do not serve rural or outlying areas. Car hire is not widely available and most roads outside of cities are in a serious state of disrepair.
While it can be difficult to travel in Somalia, there are some things to enjoy during a visit. This is particularly true in larger cities, where tours are available, and markets can be enjoyed. Other options include visiting Liido Beach or Jazeera Beach, or exploring the Saryan Museum. You may want to pay your respects at the nation’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well. Mogadishu Cathedral is lovely, and the city’s Central Market is almost always bustling.
A passport is required to enter Somalia and Somaliland. Note that a visa is also required. It can be purchased at Mogadishu International Airport but you will need to pay in US dollars. A tourist visa will cost you $60. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your entry date into the country. Note that in addition to a passport and visa, you may also need to provide a letter of invitation from a Somalian citizen or business that details the purpose of your visit. If you do not have such a letter, your entry could be denied. Also note that Somalia remains a dangerous place to visit.
