Peak season:
Nigeria gets most tourists during October to January. That said, not too many people buy flights to Nigeria due to many, many years of civil war, dictatorships and Muslim/Christian issues. If you’re a hardy traveler then you’ll have little issues, but Nigeria isn’t suggested as a first time holiday destination for the family. Ramadan and Easter are also busy times so you’ll have to secure your flight tickets in advance to find cheap flights to Nigeria.
Off season:
You’ll find the cheapest flights to Nigeria during the wet season. That runs from around April through to October. Not only will you find cheap flights to Nigeria but hotel rates will also be reduced to accommodate the lack of tourists visiting. The only issue with this is you might struggle to get airport transfers in with your hotel package, which is definitely advisable to try and secure. If you avoid any events and book early then you can find some cheap flights to Nigeria.

Lagos:
The best way to get to the city is via shuttle transfer so once you’ve booked your flights to Nigeria and are looking for hotels, you should start checking which of them offer airport transfers as this will save you time, money and add some safety for you. Other than that you’ll have to jump into a taxi. Make sure you choose one of the licensed yellow taxis from outside of the airport. Check the driver’s ID if you don’t feel safe and agree on a fee before you get in. If you arrive at night it is best to go to the nearest hotel for the night and then travel into the city when it is daylight again. This is mainly due to the issue of taxi hijacks and night so it is better safe than sorry.
Kano:
Transport can be an issue once your flights to Nigeria land and it is best to get a licensed taxi from outside of the airport. Try not to travel alone wherever possible just to be safe, and agree a price with the driver before agreeing to get in. If possible, it’s worth checking to see if any hotels provide airport transfers in with the price as this will save you any hassle.
