Car hires in Egypt will let you fully explore the land of the pharaohs and pyramids, but before going ahead, there are a few requirements to keep in mind. The minimum age to obtain Egypt car hires varies from 20 to 23 years old depending on the car hire company, which may deviate according to the type of car. Some agencies like Sixt apply a surcharge for drivers under 26 years of age. Additionally, car hire agencies may also have a maximum hiring age of 65. The main driver as well as any extra drivers must present a valid driving licence which they have held for at least one year. A driving licence that isn’t printed with Roman alphabets (Chinese characters, Cyrillic, Hangul etc.) must be accompanied by an international driving licence. A major credit card with the same name used for the booking must be shown when collecting your Egypt car hire. A debit card may not be accepted by your car hire provider, so be sure to check if you intend to use one.
When you get your car hire in Egypt, there will be a couple of things to keep in mind that are a bit different from the UK. One of the obvious differences is that you will drive your hire car in Egypt on the right hand side of the road, and consequently overtaking is done on the left. Speed limits are written in kilometres per hour- 50 km/h or 31 mph in built up areas; 90 km/h or 56 mph in rural areas and motorways, and 100 km/h or 62 mph on major motorways. The drink driving limit is also lower than England, Northern Ireland and Wales at 50 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 milligrammes of blood. Always see if there are any recent law changes before driving off in your hire car in Egypt.
Car hires in Egypt will give you the independence to go wherever you want, whenever you want. A 4WD SUV or pick-up truck takes that to the next level, allowing you the freedom to venture into the desert or explore areas with poor roads. On the other hand, a compact car is ideal for navigating the traffic of busy cities like Cairo. Cheap car hire in Egypt is available, with several car hire locations in Egypt offering luxury as well as economy car hires.
