Air Canada Check-in
Web and mobile check-in are available for flights departing from London Heathrow, airports in Canada and some airports in the US. It opens 24 hours before the flight is scheduled to depart and closes one hour before take-off (UK-Canada flights). There are Self-Service Kiosks at Heathrow too. The recommended check-in for flights departing Heathrow is two hours.
Air Canada baggage allowance
Carry-on: one item is permitted with a maximum weight of 10kg and maximum dimensions of 23 x 40 x 55cm. A personal item (laptop or duty-free purchase for example) is also allowed. The maximum size of the personal item is 16 x 33x 43cm.
Checked: the maximum number, weight, and dimensions vary by class on routes between Europe and Canada. In Economy, that’s one item, weighing up to 23kg and measuring 158 linear cm (length + width + depth). Checking-in a second bag costs $70 CAD each way (approximately £40).
Excess: on routes between Europe and Canada, there is a $100 CAD (about £60) fee for any oversize or overweight bags, with a maximum weight of 32kg and maximum size of 292 linear cm (length + width + depth). Economy travellers can check in a second regular-sized bag for $70 CAD, while each subsequent bag attracts a fee of $225 CAD (approximately £140).
Air Canada legroom
Seat pitch: varies by destination, plane and class. Economy is between 76 and 86cm (30-34in) on international routes.

Passenger change details
Changes can be made as long as the ticket purchased was not a non-refundable ticket. Charges will apply (difference in fares, change fee of about £100). If you are travelling on a non-refundable ticket, Air Canada will be unable to make exceptions in the event of an unexpected trip cancellation or medical emergency so the airline recommends buying travel insurance.
Child fares
On UK-Canada flights, infants travelling on an adult’s lap pay 10 per cent of the adult fare. There’s no fee for flights within Canada. On Canada-US flights, infants pay just the taxes. Child fares apply for children aged 12 or younger – 75 per cent of the adult fare.
Senior fares
There are no discounts for older travellers.
Pets
Due to quarantine laws, pets are not allowed travel in the cabin or baggage compartment on flights to or via the UK. On flights departing the UK, pets are permitted to travel in the baggage compartment.
Carrying musical instruments
Smaller instruments may be carried in the cabin as part of the carry-on baggage allowance. Larger instruments may be checked in and counted as part of the baggage allowance.
In-flight service
On international flights, passengers are served a hot meal and a complimentary selection of spirits and non-alcoholic beverages. The in-flight entertainment plays on a personal touch screen TV.
